What Yahtzee.now is

We are a small team that grew up rattling dice cups at the kitchen table and wanted a version that respects your time. Every game here runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to update. You can start with Yahtzee, the classic most people picture when they hear "five dice and a scorecard", or jump straight into the Nordic favourite Yatzy or the six-dice giant Maxi Yatzy. It is all free, and it always will be.

A game with real history

We love this family of games partly because of where it comes from. Yahtzee descends from Yacht, a dice game published in 1938, and from the wider Generala and Yatzy tradition played around the world. The modern game got its name in 1956, when entrepreneur E.S. Lowe acquired it from a Canadian couple who had played it aboard their yacht and marketed it as Yahtzee. Milton Bradley bought Lowe's company in 1973, and Hasbro owns the Yahtzee trademark today. Yahtzee.now is an independent site and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hasbro - we simply love the games and build faithful, free versions of the whole family, from the 1938 original to Generala and Balut.

What makes us different

A lot of dice-game sites feel cluttered and slow. We built ours to feel clean and quick.

How the games work

We care about getting the details right. Every roll comes from a fair, seeded random number generator, which means the dice are random but repeatable. That is what lets two players share the same multiplayer rolls or the same daily challenge. Our scorecards follow the traditional rules of each game - the 35-point upper bonus and joker rule in Yahtzee, the pip-scored straights in Yatzy, the servida bonus in Generala - and you can read them all in plain English on the rules hub.

Your stats, streaks, and preferences are saved right in your browser, so you can play as a guest and still keep your progress. Want to sync across devices and appear on the leaderboards, which rank the highest scores in every game? Create a free account. It is optional, and you never need one just to play.

Who it is for

Yahtzee.now is for anyone who likes the rattle of dice. Maybe you want a quiet five minutes with a quick game of Generala. Maybe you love the deep category management of Maxi Yatzy or the 28-round marathon of Balut. Maybe you just want to beat a friend head-to-head on identical rolls. Beginners can learn the ropes on the rules pages, and long-time players can chase higher totals and longer streaks. There is room for both.

Our standards

We hold ourselves to a few simple promises:

• Accurate rules. Each game follows its traditional scorecard, so what you learn here carries over to a real set of dice.
• Honest odds. We tell you the real numbers - a Yahtzee in one throw is 1 in 1,296, and about 4.6 percent across a well-played turn - instead of pretending jackpots are around every corner.
• Fair dice. Every roll is generated fairly and identically for everyone sharing a seed. Nobody gets luckier dice than you.
• Privacy-respecting. We keep data collection light and explain exactly what we store in our privacy policy.
